A trip to Walt Disney World is always exciting! But just how easy is it to be vegan in Disney World? Walt Disney World has over 200 restaurants on its property and luckily there is a plethora of vegan options! In 2019 Disney World announced they would be adding hundreds of plant-based dishes across Disney owned restaurants. This makes dining whilst at Disney super accessible, particularly if travelling in a group with mixed diets, as everyone can eat together whilst having their dietary requirements catered for. It is super easy to find out what dishes are vegan as Disney introduced the leaf symbol on their menus to indicate plant-based dishes. Only menu items with the plant-based logo will be plant-based as standard, so for anything else please always double check. Disney chefs are very knowledgeable and accommodating so if there is a non-vegan item on the menu that you like please ask your server to check with the chef whether this item can be made plant-based with accommodations, such as removing the cheese or swapping to a plant-based cheese. They are always happy to check for you! Although all items with the plant-based logo are prepared to plant-based recipes if cross contamination from cooking in similar areas with animal products or shared fryers are a concern for you please speak with the chef before ordering. More often than not your items are, or can be, prepared separately. Special Diets Team Disney want to give every visitor the best experience during their trip, including when it comes to dining. If anyone in your party has a dietary requirement, a food allergy or intolerance, then Disney have an entire dietary team who are super helpful and ready to answer any questions you may have. The dietary team can speak directly to the chefs where you wish to dine to check what options are available for you. If there are any dishes you want to know more about, or if you have questions about cross contamination, shared fryers or other preparation issues, the dietary team will be able to help get an answer for you. If anyone in your party suffers from food allergies or intolerances it is always best to check with the chef to ensure your dishes are safe to eat and are prepared in an allergy-friendly way. It is advisable to contact the dietary team as soon as you have booked your dining reservations and no later than 14 days before your trip to make sure they have ample time to prepare for your visit. You can contact the dietary team here. Vegan Options at Disney World Since welcoming guests back in June 2020 Disney World has reopened a number of its restaurants. Here is a list of the best vegan options currently available at Walt Disney World Resort. Magical Kingdom The most iconic of all Disney World snacks, Dole Whip, can be found at Aloha Isle and is totally vegan! Enjoy this pineapple soft serve on its own or as a refreshing float served with pineapple juice. Storybook Treats serves the Peter Pan Float, made from lime dole whip. Omit the chocolate feather to make this sweet treat vegan. At Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe you can order the Veggie Rice Bowl which comes with black beans and salsa. For a lighter meal dine on the Harbour Salad at Tomorrow land Terrace Restaurant. Made with mixed greens, chickpeas, apples, candied walnuts, onions and a vinaigrette. For fans of Beauty and the Beast a visit to Be Our Guest Restaurant is a must! Enjoy your meal whilst dining in the infamous ballroom. This fine dining menu offers a Mixed Field Greens Salad, Roasted Corn and Spinach Tortellini and Vanilla Cake with Lemon Curd. The Crystal Palace recently reopened with a brand-new menu featuring a Marinated Watermelon and Tomato Salad, Southern Fried Cauliflower and an Italian Strawberry Shortcake. One of the best restaurants for vegans on Disney property can be found in Magic Kingdom! Jungle Navigation Co. Skipper’s Canteen has a whole range of delicious vegan foods including the Fall's Family Falafels, Perkins Thai Noodles, Curried Vegetable Crew Stew and Panna-Connie's Congo Lime Delight. If you are looking for a traditional Thanksgiving type meal then head to Liberty Tree Tavern. Here you can enjoy a three course all-you-care-to-enjoy meal featuring the Declaration Salad, an Impossible Meatloaf with all the trimmings and Johnny Appleseed’s Warm Apple Cake. At The Plaza choose from a Wedge Salad, Plant-Based Bangers and Mash and the Dark Chocolate Banana Bread Pudding. Vegan Milkshakes are also available on request! If you are a fan of Italian food take a visit to Tony’s Town Square Restaurant for a Garden Salad, Spaghetti and Impossible Meatballs and an Italian Strawberry Shortcake. One of the most special meals at Disney World can be found at Cinderella's Royal Table. At this restaurant you eat inside Cinderella Castle! The vegan options are a Castle Salad made with mixed greens, pumpkin seeds, raisins, apples and a maple-balsamic vinaigrette, a Chickpea Panisse and a Coffee Pot de Crème. EPCOT For some refreshing flavoured shaved ice make your way to Kabuki Café in the Japan Pavilion for some Kakagori. Choose from strawberry, melon, cherry, tangerine, blue raspberry or a rainbow mixture of all five! At the France Pavilion you can enjoy a selection of Seasonal Fruit Sorbets with a Waffle Cone that is also vegan! Find this sweet treat at L'Artisan des Glaces. Boost the Power Green Salad from Regal Eagle Smokehouse by adding jackfruit or order the BBQ Jackfruit Burger. For some German cuisine visit Biergarten Restaurant. Served family-style, you get a platter to share. Request the vegan option when ordering and then dine on Fishless Filets, Beefless Tips, Beet Salad, Tomato and Cucumber Salad, Pretzel Rolls, Potato Wedges, Sauteed Vegetables, Sauerkraut, Enjoy Life Cookies and Fruit Compote. For a character dining experience with Chip ‘n’ Dale make a reservation for Garden Grill. The food is served family-style and is all-you-care-to-enjoy. For lunch and dinner you are served a Vegan Loaf with Vegan Cream Sauce, Harvest-Inspired Garden Salad, Green Beans, Corn, Fries and a Berry Shortcake. At the Rose & Crown Dining Room in the UK Pavilion enjoy a Savoury Impossible Hot Pot. Modify the following entrees to make them vegan; Bangers and Mash (swap to plant-based sausages), Fish and Chips (request vegan when ordering), Tofu Masala Curry (swap the chicken to tofu). Next door at the Rose & Crown Pub the Fish and Chips can also be modified to be made vegan, just ask when ordering. Visit Le Cellier Steakhouse in the Canada Pavilion for Asian Impossible Dumplings, Maple Whiskey Glazed Brussel Sprouts and Carrot Cake. Hollywood Studios ABC Commissary serves two vegan options: the Curry Rice Bowl with crispy marinated pineapple tofu or the California Burger with sriracha mustard and grilled peppers. Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge has one of the best rated vegan options at Disney World. Visit Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo for the Felucian Kefta and Hummus Garden Spread with plant-based meatballs, herb hummus and a tomato cucumber relish. The Toasted 'Lobster' Roll at Rosie's All-American Cafe is made from marinated hearts of palm, celery, apple and a creamy old bay dressing and comes with house-made potato chips. Over at Backlot Express there is the Tatooine Two Suns Hummus. This dish comes with two type of hummus, fried chickpeas, pita bread, plant-based meat and a spring salad. In Toy Story Land you can visit Woody's Lunchbox to order the Modified Totchos. This fan favourite sees potato barrels covered in vegan chili and vegan cheese. Also available is the American classic, aToasted ‘Cheddar’ Sandwich. Hollywood & Vine is one of the only locations currently offering character dining. See Minnie and her friends in seasonal costumes whilst dining on a three-course meal. Start with a Plant-Based Chopped Salad, followed by Pan-seared King Trumpet Mushrooms and a Plant-Based Cherry Lemon Pie for dessert. If you are a fan of Italian food head to Mama Melrose's Ristorante Italiano. Here you will find a really unique entrée, the Polenta Cake, Mushroom and Herbed Cauliflower that comes with a cashew-cheese sauce. Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant offers a totally unique dining experience. Dine in this drive-in theatre including seats that look like cars! The vegan options here include the Island Cake, Flying Saucer Impossible Burgerwith grilled portobello mushroom, cashew mozzarella, pesto and a garlic-tomato aioli and the Cookie Shake. Yes a vegan milkshake! If you are looking for a memorable experience head to 50’s Prime Time Café. This kitsch 50’s style restaurant serves traditional American cuisine. Set in ‘Mom’s Kitchen’ your servers act as your aunts and uncles – tellings off included! Be sure to keep your elbows off the table as you enjoy Cousin’s Amy’s Wedge Salad, Cousin Harold’s Vegetable Garden (a seasonal dish which is currently pasta with vegetables) and the famous Warm Apple Crisp with Dairy-Free Ice Cream. For a fine dining experience visit The Hollywood Brown Derby. The vegan options here are a Local Greens and Baby Spinach Salad, Plant-Based Salisbury Steak and a Chocolate Coconut Cake. Animal Kingdom Animal Kingdom Park has a big focus on nature and conservation. There are animals at this park. Although the animals roam on an open savannah the nature of animals being in captivity may mean vegans may wish to skip visiting this park. If you are looking for a refreshing drink in the hot Florida heat then head to Pongu Pongu in Pandora and order the Night Blossom drink. This cool drink mixes apple and desert pear limeade with passionfruit boba balls. The Hot Link Smokehouse Sausage from Flame Tree Barbecue is perfect for BBQ lovers. This smoky hot dog is great for a quick bite to eat. Whilst in African stop by Harambe Market for the Hot Link Bowl which features a plant-based sausage, cilantro rice, greens and salsa. The Chili Spiced Crispy Fried Tofu dish from Satu'li Canteen in Pandora has become a fan favourite! At this quick service restaurant you get to build you own bowl by choosing a protein, a base and a sauce. For a totally vegan bowl order the tofu with either the Sweet Potato Hash or Black Beans and Rice and the Charred Onion Vinaigrette. Offering a range of Asian dishes Yak & Yeti Restaurant is one of the most popular restaurants in this park. There are lots of dishes suitable for vegans here including theRoasted Vegetable Bowl and a Beyond Burger. Many dishes can also be modified to be suitable for vegans by speaking to the chef. This includes vegetable lo mein, miso tofu (swap the salmon for tofu), sweet and sour tofu (swap the chicken for tofu) and the house salad which comes with sesame seeds and an Asian dressing. Serving beautiful African dishes Tiffins Restaurant has a range of tasty vegan dishes. Choose from the North African Spiced Tofu, Tinga Taco, Passionfruit Tapioca Crème and their Signature Bread Service which feature a range of breads and flavourful dips (specify for the bread service to be vegan when ordering). Disney Springs The number one location for vegans at Disney Springs is Erin McKenna's Bakery NYC. Everything in this bakery is vegan and gluten-free! Including cakes, pastries, ice cream, cupcakes. Anything sweet you desire will be here! Head to Blaze Fast Fire'd Pizza to build your own pizza. Add all the ingredients you love, vegan cheese and vegan chorizo are available. If you fancy a burger with a twist be sure to visit D-Luxe Burgerand order the Pacific Island Burger. A plant-based patty is topped with cabbage and mushroom ragout and a mango salsa. Build Your Own Veggie Bowl at Yesake. AtCity Works Eatery and Pour House choose from the Fried Pickle (without the ranch dressing) or the Kung Pao Cauliflower. The Garlicky Mushroom and Eggplant Tacos from Frontera Cocina just sounds so delicious! Request this dish be made vegan when ordering and enjoy! For one of the bestrated vegan burgers at Walt Disney Worldhead to House of Blues Restaurant & Bar and order the Impossible Burger. Disney Resorts Animal Kingdom Lodge This resort is located next to Animal Kingdom Park and shares a Savannah. This means animals can roam between the park and the resort. Although this is an open space for animals to roam because they are in captivity vegans may wish to avoid this resort. Sanaa is a hidden gem restaurant. Serving beautiful Indian and African dishes it is a very vegan friendly restaurant. For breakfast you can order the Enriching Grains and Fruit, a hearty dish made from mixed grains, South African rusk, seasonal fruit and a coconut milk yogurt. For lunch and dinner be sure to try the famous Sanaa Bread Service! Featuring 5 breads and 9 accompaniments, simply order the vegan version to enjoy this iconic dish. To start there is samosas and a salad sampler that are both vegan. For an entrée try the Potje Inspired Harvest dish which comes with aloo masala, chickpea wat and cilantro coconut vegetable served with basmati rice or the quinoa vegetable tabbouleh salad. From the dinner menu try the Biriyani curry. Make sure you leave room for dessert! Order the Kheer, a coconut rice pudding with cashew streusel and saffron poached fruit to finish the meal off. Beach Club Resort If you are looking for some dairy-free ice cream head to Beaches & Cream Soda Shop where vegan ice cream is on offer. They also serve food including a plant-based chili and cookie fries for dessert! This restaurant is famous for its milkshakes and vegan versions are available upon request. Contemporary Resort Contempo Cafe is a great quick service location in this resort next to Magic Kingdom. For breakfast order the Tofu Bowl which comes with mung bean scramble, vegan sausage crumbles, grilled tofu vegetables and vegan cheese. For lunch or dinner on offer is the Kale Power Greens Salad or a Grilled Tofu Bowl which is served with green sofrito rice, red sofrito black beans, pico de gallo, green tomatillo salsa and an avocado crema. The Wave...of American Flavors has an amazing Avocado Toast on its breakfast menu and a deliciousCauliflower Taco or Tikka Masala curry on its dinner menu. If you are looking for an elegant fine dining meal book in to California Grill. Here you can order a signature sushi dish calledthe Forbidden Roll, a seasonal plant-based pasta entrée and the fan favourite Plant-Based Blueberry Donuts for dessert. Grand Floridian Resort To enjoy beautiful food in a quaint setting visit the Grand Floridian Café. For breakfast they have an upmarket Avocado Toast and for dinner a Grilled Romaine Market Salad. Served all day is an Impossible Burger and miso-glazed tofu (swap the salmon for tofu to make this dish vegan). If you are looking for an upscale evening make a booking at Narcoossee’s. This fine dining restaurant has a variety of vegan options including the Barbecued Crispy Eggplant with red quinoa and cabbage slaw, an Endive and Pear Salad, Crispy Organic Tofu served with vegetables, heirloom grains rice and coconut masala or a Sweet PotatoGnocchi. For dessert be sure to try the Southern-style Carrot Cake. Old Key West Resort Head to Good’s Food To Go for breakfast to enjoy the Harvest Breakfast Sandwich filled with plant-based eggs, avocado and roasted tomatoes. For lunch and dinner ordera plant-based burger or a Power Salad made with edamame, garbanzo, red peppers, greens, tomatoes and quinoa. Olivia's Café serves Papa's Hash for breakfast which is made with tamari marinated tofu, roasted peppers, spinach and fried potatoes. For lunch and dinner choose from a Seasonal Market Salad, Miss Vickie’s Veggie Burger, West Indian Tofu and Coconut Curry and a Tropical Chocolate Tart. Polynesian Village Resort Capt. Cook's serves Tonga Toast, banana stuffed bread which is battered and deep fried, which can be made vegan on request. From the plant-based menu choose from a Power Breakfast Bowl featuring plant-based sausage and scramble with breakfast potatoes or oatmeal. For lunch and dinner enjoy a Red Pepper and Arugula Burger or a Superfoods Salad. For some Polynesian fare visit Kona Cafe and order the Plant-Based Loco Moco, a traditional dish made with plant-based eggs, sausage, rice, coconut milk and pico de gallo. Tonga Toast is also available here, just request it be made vegan. For lunch and dinner is a Vegetable Bowl made with jasmine broth, glass noodles and pineapple tofu. Riviera Resort For a unique breakfast option dine at Primo Piatto and order the Plant-Based Egg Platter with grilled vegetables and Plant-Based sausage. At lunch and dinner a Grilled Vegetable Skewer is available. Topolino's Terrace offers one of the only character dining experiences currently available. Enjoy a breakfast of Wild Mushroom Scramble whilst seeing Mickey and his pals. At dinner time this restaurant serves fine dining cuisine. The vegan options are Tarbais Bean Cassoulet, Olives Marinees, Beet Barigoule and a Fruits of the Forest dessert. Wilderness Lodge Roaring Fork serves up a vegan Zesty Slaw Burger. If you are a barbecue fan then Whispering Canyon Café is the restaurant for you! Famous for its skillets come here to enjoy maple-chipotle barbecued jackfruit, spicy ‘sausage’, mustard glazed beefless tips, herb brushed chick’n, roasted potatoes and vegetable or some Pan-Fried Red Quinoa Cakes. For breakfast enjoy aPlant-Based Pepper Jack ‘Cheese’ Frittata. Yacht Club Resort For a hearty breakfast visit Ale & Compass Restaurant for the Breakfast Protein Bowl. Made with tofu scramble, sweet potatoes, chard, kale, plant-based sausage and chocolate avocado toast. At dinner choose from the Ale & Compass Salad, a Plant-Based Protein Bowl and a Mango Torte Spiced Lemon Pound Cake. Water Parks At the present time both Disney Water Parks are still closed. On 7th March 2021 Blizzard Beach will reopen. Here are the vegan options that were available before the parks closed. Lottawatta Lodge at Blizzard Beach served an Impossible Burger, Tofu Rice Bowl, Tofu ‘Crab’ Cake and a Vegan Bratwurst Sandwich. Leaning Palms at Typhoon Lagoonserved aPlant-Based Island Burger, Plant-Based Bratwurst, Plant-Based Picadillo Rice Bowl, Vegan ‘Sausage’ Pizza and anIsland Wrap. Vegan Options For Kids at Disney World We are starting to see plant-based options appearing on some children’smenus. Vegan options specifically for children are not as plentiful as for adultsso an alternative option isan adult portion shared between children. Little ones aged 3 and under can eat off their parents’ plate for free! Most quick service restaurants will have Uncrustables on the kid’s menu and the peanut butter and jelly flavour is vegan! This is a great option for a light bite or small meal. For an iconic Disney breakfast Mickey Waffles are able to be made vegan on request and these appear on almost all breakfast menus! Woody’s Lunchbox - Grilled Cheese (have aplant-based version of this on the adult’s menu so should be able to make vegan for kids too). Animal Kingdom Tiffins Restaurant – Impossible Bunny Chow. (You are able to do this on adults’ menu so should be able to for children as well). Disney Springs Blaze Fast Fire’d Pizza – Make Your Own Pizza. Yesake – Make Your Own Veggie Bowl. Jaleo by Jose Andres – Tomato Bread. Top 5 Vegan Snacks at Disney World Dole Whip from Aloha Isle, Storybook Treats, Sunshine Tree Terrace in Magic Kingdom. Tamu Tamu Refreshments in Animal Kingdom and Pineapple Lanai at the Polynesian Village Resort. This refreshing fruit soft serve comes in multiple flavours including the classic pineapple, lime and orange. Popcorn from multiple locations, all parks. Disney’s popcorn is famous for tasting the best! This buttery flavoured treat is in fact vegan! Mickey Pretzel from multiple locations, all parks. If you are looking for a super filling snack then get yourself a pretzel! The fact they are Mickey shaped makes them taste better and is great for photos! Order without the cheese dip. Cookies ‘n’ Cream Mousse from Sunshine Seasons in EPCOT. This decadent dessert is perfect for those with a sweet tooth! Green or Blue Milk from Milk Stand in Hollywood Studios. Made with a blend of coconut and rice milks these drinks are totally vegan! The green milk is citrus flavoured and the blue milk is fruity. Vegan Options When It's Special Events at Disney World Disney holds a number of special events throughout the year where dishes are created specifically for these occasions. Here are the types of vegan options you will find at these events. EPCOT festivals always feature food booths with cuisines from around the world. Dishes change each year but these are a selection of previous vegan options. The International Food and Wine Festival has an entire plant-based booth called Earth Eats, which serves dishes such as Impossible Sliders and Farmhouse Meatballs. Elsewhere dine on the Spicy Kenyan Vegan Corn and White Beans. The Flower and Garden Festival serves the famous chocolate pudding terrarium which is as pretty as it is delicious. Also available are Impossible Meatballs, grilled corn on the cob, a pineapple skewer with tajin seasoning and potato pancakes with applesauce. During the Festival of the Arts enjoy a plant-based bratwurst or vegetable gyoza (minus the mashed potatoes). At the International Festival of the Holidays chow down on Potato Latkes and the Black and White Cookie from L’Chaim Holiday Kitchen. Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party comes to Magic Kingdom in the autumn. A big part of Halloween is trick or treating! At this party stations are provided to collect candy. Since Skittles is not vegan, you collect an allergy token to swap this for a range of vegan options such as Enjoy Life Cookies and free2b dark chocolate sun cups (like a vegan version of Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups!). At Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom enjoy vegan snowman shaped pretzels and Enjoy Life cookies. Sustainability at Disney World Disney World was voted the most eco-friendly tourist attraction in the world in 2020. So what steps do they take to reduce their impact on the environment? The Disney Wilderness Preserve in Kissimmee is 11,500 acres and home to over 1000 species of animals and plants. Disney joined this project to help mitigate Disney Worlds future impact on Central Florida’s ecosystem. About a third of Disney World’s own property is set aside as a dedicated wildlife conservation area. Food waste from Disney World is turned into electricity by a process called anaerobic digestion. The left overs and scraps are taken to a biofuel facility where it is combusted and turned into electricity. The leftover waste is then used as fertiliser. Disney has two huge solar panel farms, one in the shape of Mickey Mouse, that produces enough energy from the Florida sun to power two of the DisneyParks. Ban on plastic straws and lids. Animal Kingdom had a ban on these plastic items for well over a decade due to the risk plastic poses to animals. In 2019 the rest of Walt Disney World Resort banned all plastic straws and lids.
