Snapple is a popular beverage company that has been around for decades. It is one of the leaders in the industry, offering a wide variety of beverages ranging from juices and teas to flavored water and energy drinks. But, is Snapple vegan?

Almost all flavors of Snapple could be vegan but they contain natural flavors, which could contain ingredients sourced from animals. Their website says that their natural flavors contains suitable materials whose significant function in food is flavoring. It does not clearly say vegan-friendly materials.

Below is a table showing Snapple flavors and its vegan status.

As always I’ve highlighted the ingredients that we need to take a closer look at.

Non-Vegan Ingredients

Honey

Since honey is made from bees, it’s not a vegan-friendly ingredient.

Questionable Ingredients

Sugar

Sugar is a controversial ingredient for vegans, where the cane sugar could be classified as non-vegan. Two of the most common types of sugar are beet sugar and cane sugar, with the latter being more popular.

Beet sugar and raw cane sugar is always vegan, but when the cane sugar often gets refined to fit the product better and in this refining process the sugar is also bleached. A common bleaching method is to use bone char from dead cows.

Natural Flavors

Natural flavor is a very common ingredient in many food products and it’s an umbrella term, meaning that it consists of several ingredients that are not disclosed on the ingredients label. This makes it hard for vegans to know if it’s vegan-friendly or not.

Aspartame

Some ethical vegans tends to stay away from aspartame because of the animal testing that has been conducted. Personally I consume products that contain artificial sweeteners.

Vitamin A Palmitate

This ingredient can be made from both plants and animals.

Conclusion

Like I mentioned earlier, many of the Snapple flavors are probably vegan, but I can’t confirm that the natural flavors is vegan. Always read the ingredients label because companies can change their recipes.

Thanks for reading, take care!
