Questionable Ingredients
Aspartame
Aspartame is technically vegan because it doesn’t contain any ingredients sourced from animals, but it shares a similar problem with artificial colors, animal testing.
Most artificial sweeteners have been tested on animals in the past and it would be near impossible to keep track of that, this can also cause some issues for ethical vegans when it comes to medicine, where animal testing is very common.
I choose to consume products with aspartame, but everyone vegan journey is different so the choice is yours.
Natural Flavors
Natural flavors often consists of several ingredients and the problem with this is that the source of these ingredients are not disclosed on the ingredients label. This means that companies can add ingredients that are animal-sourced and vegans won’t know, unless they contact the company.
Phenylalanine
This is an essential amino acid that can be found in sweeteners such as aspartame. I thought that it was worth mentioning that phenylalanine can come from other sources such as eggs, chicken, beef and milk. So If you find products that contain phenylalanine but not artificial sweeteners, then the source of ingredient could possibly be non-vegan.
Conclusion
It’s highly likely that Orbit Gum is suitable for dietary vegans because natural flavor is very often vegan-friendly. But, the source as always is not disclosed and we have to be careful as vegans, so the best thing you can do is to contact the company and ask or choose another brands that is labeled vegan.
