Flora butter is a popular and versatile product that is used in many kitchens around the world. It has been a staple ingredient in recipes for generations, offering both flavor and nutrition benefits. But, is Flora vegan?

Flora 100% Natural Ingredients and Flora Lighter are both vegan because they don’t contain any ingredients sourced from animals. Flora Buttery is not vegan because it contains milk.

Below is a table showing Flora flavors and its vegan status.

Non-Vegan Ingredients

Milk

Since milk comes from cows, it’s not a vegan-friendly ingredient.

Questionable Ingredients

Natural Flavourings

This ingredient is a tricky one for vegans and the reason for that is because it’s an umbrella term, meaning that it often consists of several ingredients and the source of these ingredients are not disclosed on the ingredients label.

So natural flavors could contain ingredients sourced from animals and vegans would never know because it’s not listed on the ingredients label.

Palm Oil

Palm oil is a very controversial ingredient, not just for vegans but people all around the world. This vegetable oil is known for its amazing productivity per square meter. Even tho this is the case, a lot of deforestation is taking place to make room for the farms.

This is a disaster for the ecosystem and the wild life. Orangutans and rhinos are being forced from their homes and there are heartbreaking videos Youtube showing orangutans trying to defend the forest against the bulldozers.

Ethical vegans and people are taking a stand against palm oil industry, but it still remains the most popular vegetable oil in the world. You will see a lot of vegan certified products contain palm oil and the reason for this is because it’s often sustainable palm oil.

There is an organisation called RSPO, which helps companies produce and and buy sustainable palm oil.

Mono- And Diglycerides & Vitamin A

This ingredient can be sourced from animals or plants.

Conclusion

It’s amazing that 2 of 3 flavors of Flora butter is vegan-friendly. The last flavor contains milk and this is very common among many brands of butter and margarine. So Flora is perfect for vegans and I personally love this butter.
